TONY AYLIFFE
Tony’s career began at consulting engineers James Carrington & Partners between 1980 and 1984. In 1985 he moved to The Baynham Meikle Partnership and a year later began a Civil Engineering Degree course at Birmingham University returning to Baynham Meikle after graduation, and remaining with the company until 1996. During that time he was responsible, as a Project Engineer, for Structural Schemes ranging from
small residential sites to commercial and light industrial developments on prestigious Business Park sites for Clients such as P&O Properties.
He has also undertaken refurbishment projects that have included extensive structural surveys and recommendations for appropriate remedial works. Such schemes have ranged from surveying and repairs to system-built Local Authority housing stock to the conversion of a traditional masonry arched and buttressed church into apartments for a Housing Association, and the redevelopment / modernisation of a former aircraft hanger into a 63,000 sqft industrial unit for a commercial Client. He is experienced in all the major structural materials used in construction for building superstructures and substructures.
In 1996 Tony moved to consultants Clarke Bond Partnership primarily working on in-house checking of structural designs under the companies QA Procedures. In 1997 he was employed by ECI Limited, mainly working on light industrial refurbishment projects for a large property owning Client on their trading estates to bring their stock of properties into line with current Building Regulation requirements. After a brief period at Tarmac Professional Services co-ordinating the design aspect of a large retail / leisure development in Manchester he joined Banners Gate in September 1998 to develop the Structural Engineering Department in order to supply the one stop service to Clients as mentioned previously.
Tony has gained a considerable amount of experience in all aspects of Structural Engineering over his career to date. This has culminated in his status as a Chartered Engineer, which he gained in 1999.
